Foundations for Organic Mattress

We recommend buying one of our matching foundations to support your new natural mattress. Foundations have replaced box springs for the most part in the mattress industry. Unlike a box spring, which is an actual springed support system, a foundation is a solid base similar to a platform. Foundations are used with a traditional bed frame. Latex mattresses support your body best when placed on a foundation.

Before investing in a new foundation, we recommend checking your old foundation for signs of wear. To do so, spread your hands like you are going to leave an imprint in cement – like a Hollywood star. Press firmly on your foundation, and work your way down the foundation from head to toe. If you notice that the foundation feels softer or weaker in the hip area, it is time to replace it. If your foundation is 10 years old or older, it is also time to replace it.

At My Green Mattress we offer two foundation options: the Power Stack foundation and the Metal-Free foundation.

Option 1: Power Stack Foundation

The Power Stack foundation is the strongest and most supportive base available. The Power Stack is constructed with a steel grid and high-quality wood that is upholstered with organic cotton ticking. We offer the Power Stack foundation in standard height, which measures 9-inches, and low profile height, which measures 5 ½ inches.

• Organic cotton ticking – We use organic cotton ticking to upholster our traditional foundation, which reduces your exposure to chemicals.

Option 2: Metal-Free Foundation

The Metal-Free foundation is an all-wood slat foundation that is constructed without the use of metal fasteners. Instead we use a water-based latex glue that is chemical-free and strong enough to last as long as your new mattress. Our Metal-Free foundation measures 7 inches in height. • Metal-free – Our foundation is constructed of all wood for people concerned with electromagnetic fields (EMFs).
• Chemical-free – We use non-toxic latex glue to fasten the wooden slats to the wooden base, which reduces your exposure to chemicals.
• Organic cotton ticking – We use organic cotton ticking to upholster our Metal-Free foundation, which reduces your exposure to chemicals.
• Highly durable – Our foundation is constructed of high-quality woods with minimal knots. We use only the widest wooden slats available in the market.
